You know the twins thing wasn’t as bad as I had expected. Obviously one is a tsundere brat as required with all blonde haired twin tails, but surprisingly the other one is one of those weird chicks who has some weird fetish for the main character. In this case, she is attracted to the fact that he’s cursed so she requests that he allow her to stalk him. Oh well that’s not a really big issue for me. The biggest annoyance was the random zoom in of their ridiculously short skirts and then the black holes in their asses but anyway. More importantly, this week’s episode had some REAL nyankoi:

There are two main problems with Tsukihime:

The first is that both Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night have become internet memes. It was hard to take the show seriously while the whole time I could only think about things like “A CAT IS FINE TOO” or “THIS CHAIR” or even had some of the Fate/Stay Night ones seeping through.

The other is that I didn’t think that the Fate/Stay Night anime was very good, and I remember the general consensus on Tsukihime was that it wasn’t either. Yet at the same time, Nasu has a cult following. So which is it? Well, I personally don’t think that it’s one of those cases where the masses are massively overrating something. My instinct here is because the Tsukihime anime never really delivered anything coherent. I could never figure out what the soul or the point or whatever kind of essence that the show is supposed to be “about”.

Everything seemed completely disjointed. I would watch an episode and feel confused. Did I miss a line of dialogue or something that was important? But then I would go over to Wikipedia and look over what happened in the episode and realize that yes, I do recall all of that happening. What I just could not seem to piece together was why everything in that episode was in that episode. Was that character there just because otherwise if they followed one specific game route, they’d be completely left out? Was that event the only piece of a longer segment, which is why it doesn’t really tie in well with anything? Would those leaps of logic make sense in a different context? Is there no bizarre tonal shift in the game here because there is an actual transition? Those sorts of thoughts. Reading about the game made me even more confused. I’d start scratching my head wondering, “Wait, did I miss something? It says here that Shiki is supposed to have a split personality, but I don’t remember any of that. Hmm, and these episode summaries don’t seem to mention anything that even remotely sounds like that either. It can’t be me going crazy, right?”

But I digress. None of that matters. That is not the sort of thing that governs why all of these shows got burned onto spindle after spindle of CDs and DVDs. This is what matters:

Back when I did the first double feature, I didn’t realize that there as a DVD of Sukisho on the spindle of burned DVDs, thus making it a double rather than triple feature. To keep with the spirit of the double featuring, I decided to finally get around to watching Boku no Sexual Harassment. I mean, it’s only 3 episodes. Why not?

Boku no Sexual Harassment is similarly hard to rate. At face value, it’s pretty vile. It basically consists of three episode of Mochizuki being raped almost nonstop. And I’m not talking about how the automatic response to every question in Japanese is “no”. I’m talking along the lines of drugging someone, tying them up, and sodomizing them with various handheld objects. The scenes that aren’t blatantly rape are usually some kind of prostitution on his part. But on the other hand, it’s probably closer to watching an anime version of Kusomiso Technique. I mean, it features lines like “But who could have thought that an MIT-educated engineer could do such depravity?” How are you supposed to take that seriously?

It also reinforces the kind of confusion about all the rape in yaoi that some of the panelists felt in the recent Chicks on Anime. In a title like Sukisho, the setting gives an opportunity to create new kinds of non-gendered interactions between the characters. Boku no Sexual Harassment, on the other hand, explicitly reproduces many of the same kind of oppressive gendered sexual relationships between the characters that it is kind of baffling psychologically as to why women would want to see these aspects of the patriarchy reproduced.

Or, you can simply go “LOL corncob LOL”.

Would I watch it even if I weren’t forced? For Sukisho, nah. Princess Princess is simply better.

Most of these shows will have come out in the last year or two, and often really aren’t necessarily that terrible. They’re the kind of shows that will be (if not already) forgotten in a few months. In other words, The Fan That Doesn’t Watch Enough Anime doesn’t really have much perspective when it comes to what’s bad.

The Guy That Watched All of CPM’s Old Catalog watches lots of truly bad anime, but these are the kind of bad anime that are so bad that they’re fun to watch. I’d take one episode of Mad Bull 34 over one episode of a decent-but-not-particularly-amazing show like I dunno, Toradora any day of the week.

Finally, we have The Guy That Watches Way Too Much Shitty Anime. In other words, me. This is my personal bottom 5 anime. Note that these were generally shows that I was forced to watch.

I was gonna skip blogging this episode but then I remembered this:
This is the first thing I’m going to when I get to Japan…cause there’s apparently one like across the street from my hotel. I LOVE THEM NEKOCHANS~!

I honestly have no idea why Yumeria was watched, much less burned. It most certainly did not end with the main male and female characters holding hands. While it didn’t have kissing, it did have completely obnoxious characters (the worst being Mone, who could only speak by saying “mone” like a Pokemon) and fanservice in the form of transformation scene stock footage that I was fast forwarding through by episode 3. It also didn’t have any hugging from behind, but did have loli yuri fanservice.

You know what that exchange did not include? Mizuki getting jealous. Everyone knows that the girl getting jealous is totally required for any implied shipping!

So yeah, really shitty Nanoha-style magical girls combined with really shitty fanservice comedy (although I did laugh at the very random Space Adventure Cobra joke, since I doubt that I’ve seen one of those anywhere outside of maybe a Shaft show in the last 10 years) creates possibly the antithesis of the sorts of shows that I am generally forced to watch each week. And on a totally unrelated note, the Wikipedia page for Yumeria (which has three different quality issue flags on it) says that Mone “is quite young, and her fanservice scenes focus on her pert butt”, which along with not really being correct (I honestly didn’t remember any scenes like that), is a hilariously inappropriate description of a character whose design is clearly prepubescent.

Apparently train-station shotas can fall in love too. But wait, is the shota even a train station? From this episode I got the impression that he was the Oedosen himself I could be wrong though. So sad that a girl has to become a train otaku just to get a train otaku to notice her. I wonder if some fujoshi become fujoshi to get anime otaku to notice them? lol

What is amazing in this show is 2 people tell Seira “if you don’t like it, you can leave anytime.” I mean why the fuck would you even stay here? You do a shit ton of work just for a shitty attic space and a piece of bread each night. You could get that for free at a freaking soup kitchen without being a slave to a bunch of fucking bitches. So that bitch Hiroko (fuck her name Maria lol what a way to ruin a name) pays everyone to ignore Seira but KAITO’S POWAR OF LOVE beats her money bwahahah. I’m glad they replaced the old maid with him xDDD Romance ftw!! Next week looks like a little less depressing ^^;
