presented without comment: anime with “interesting” english titles

Oh, and I purposely left out all of those Media Blasters pornos with the really goofy names like “Do You Know the MILFing Man”.

  1. How could Beck be released as anything *but* Mongolian Chop Squad in the US? Seriously. And Samurai Harem lets you know exactly what you’re in for with Asu no Yoichi, at least.

No excuse for “Rumbling Hearts”, though. It always makes me think they ate spicy food too close to bedtime.

    • Rumbling Hearts is super silly, but it is the official English title from Japan and not some overzealous American licensor’s idea.

  2. In my view for a title to be REALLY bad it must not just be embarrassing to say out loud, it must also fundamentally misrepresent the material it is attached to. On that basis it’s hard to beat “Bodacious Space Pirates.”

    • I still can’t say “Bodacious Space Pirates” without at minimum crack a smile, no matter how totally inaccurate that name is.

  3. Kannazuki no Miko has had many name changes due to the license transfers. Though, I still wonder why anyone thought Cat Planet Cuties was a good name. To be fair, “We’ve come to play” still sounds like a bad porno.

  4. Actually destiny of shrine maiden isn’t that bad. Shattered angels I begin to understand but does not relate to Kyoshiro and the eternal sky, and if you read the kanji another way, it’s Kyoshiro and the eternal Kuu.

  5. The worst offender to me was renaming Makai Tenshou to Ninja Resurection in order to fool people into thinking it was a sequal Ninja Scroll.

  6. You probably should’ve included the back of the ‘Cat Planet Cuties’ DVD box so that we could all enjoy just how horrible the copy is, as well.

I don’t think most of these are bad or illogical to utilize as titles, although Knight Hunters was a bizarre rename, and Rumbling Hearts sounds like some sort of weird battle show. If anything, I’d call Ninja Nonsense a clever rename given that its title doesn’t make sense translated, and if you take out the pun factor is nonsense.
