As I mentioned in my post a few months ago, all light novels are the same and well Hyouka isn’t any different. The thing is, they should just stay as novels. Really, we don’t need them turned into anime. If you turn it into an anime though, you need to “break out” of that “text barrier”. You need to SUMMARIZE the scene and turn it into some kind of sensible dialogue so that viewers who are now watching a show (rather than reading a book) can understand what is going on.
Kyoto Animation unfortunately loves following the source material (except when they don’t *cough Clannad*) and they thought it would be so interesting to have us listen to Sakaguchi Daisuke explain why the hell Miss Sparkly Purple Eyes got locked in the club room for like 7 minutes. ( ´_ゝ`)
I have a message to KyoAni:
That’s right nobody cares. Putting in a nice voice cast and making everything CG’ed & sparkly & pretty doesn’t make a show. Well maybe to animation/seiyuu whores it does but for the general audience? Zzzz…. I saw a few comments from Japanese viewers saying “KyoAni template” and “this is boring as sin” while others were like “THIS IS JUST LIKE MY CHILDHOOD” sigh whatever . I really liked the art so I wanted to watch this show but when they sat there talking about the same fking thing for 5-7 minutes and then the episode ended, I realized this show was just not for me.
I sure hope they’re paying Sakaguchi a lot of this show cause he sure has a hell lot of lines.
