Aw c’mon, how can they not have gotten the permission to use the official names from “Yuueisha”? The actual references are one of the main ways that the manga describes the characters’ motivations and plans!

Shounen Jack lolz.
Yet they can coin Ashita no Joe, Death Note, DBZ and other stuff.
This might have already been mentioned elsewhere, but I assume it’s because Bakuman is shown on NHK, and I imagine that there’s probably some law against shilling your own wares on public TV.
That’s interesting. I wonder how the whole process went regarding how it got onto NHK (NHK Educational? I forget.)
The whole thing is doubly confusing because like bluemist said, they have already referenced both Dragon Ball and Ashita no Joe. Ashita no Joe isn’t even a Shuueisha manga, and I can rarely think of times when an anime will reference directly someone else’s franchises.
I’m pretty sure Dragon Ball and Ashita no Joe are pretty much open game. They are both really old and classical enough that it probably doesn’t matter.
Though I wonder if they change it for the DVD release? Probably not, but it would be amusing. I guess it might be the difference between an actual title and the company or publisher. In a sense, the show is almost advertising for Jump, and they might have rules on how much it seems less like a cameo and more of a sales pitch.
More likely, someone is just being too fussy.
NHK is a evil super mega corperation set out to control your life and conspire evil plans.
Fear the NHK
And make you pay the license fee even if you don’t own a TV!
A few manga related questions if I may:
1) Are the manga artists self employed? I think they’ve mentioned it in the manga, but I can’t remember.
2) In relation to question 1, do the assistants come off Shounen Jack’s payroll or the manga artist themselves?
3) Are the main characters still going to Uni and doing manga??
In regards to the license fee, you should come to England and not pay your fee and even dare not own a T.V. It’s paramount to crossing the Mafia. They’ll get warrants to search your house and they bang down the doors like repo men. Worse is anyone who like halogen lights with no T.V. Think the technology they use in their spying vans is to catch radiation off the screens/monitors. Laptops are the key lol
IIRC:
1) They get all of their money from their manga, in various forms. The tankoubons are the majority of that. It comes in spurts, though. They had made a pretty comfortable living from the tankoubons of one of their bigger hits, then they weren’t making any money for a while while they were on sabbatical and were living off of their (comfortable) savings.
2) I believe that they need to pay the assistants, but they get a salary from Shounen Jump, most of which goes to the assistants. So it’s more or less like Shounen Jump is paying the assistants.
3) It’s been a really long time since the manga ever made any reference to them attending college, but I think it’s implied that they aren’t really. The current storyline has them trying to do multiple mangas at once, which is taking up every waking hour of their time and then some.
I think Takagi is still going, but Saiko quit going in one chapter. I think the reasoning was it’s easier for Takagi to do his work (writing) in class than it was for Saiko to draw while in class.
Cheers for the answers guys. There was some relevance to the answers you gave in the latest chapters.
