This is a post about the 2 Higashi no Eden movies since I finally saw the first one and as you all know I saw the 2nd one in Japan. I figured some friends/readers might want to know what happens in case they didn’t understand the Japanese raw etc. Remember this will contain spoilers so read at your own risk.
So after the series ends, a bunch of cops come and arrest Akira, take him to America and tell him that his last name is Iinuma and that he’s the son of a rich heir. He’s given a mass ton of keys and lots of money and lives the rich life. In the meantime Saki’s neet friends form the official Eden of the East corporation which is basically a support group for Akira. Saki is still worried about him though and based on clues he left her in his voice message on his phone, she goes to New York to find him. Unfortunately the cabbie finds her suitcase full of guns (how the hell did she get through security with that shit?) and drives away with her passport and Akira’s phone. She then goes to Brooklyn Bridge park with a gun the cabbie gave her (??) and meets Akira there who has no idea who she is. He helps her get her purse & his phone back and then she tells him the person she’s been looking for is him. To prove it she shows him that pic he took of the two of them in Japan so he takes her to his hotel room.
Selecao #6 who is a creepy stalker and I think wants to film Akira x Saki pr0n movies (it’s not me I swear
) makes the heater in their hotel room explode and so they run into a movie theater Akira has access too. It turns out Akira still has memories of his love for movies and then they go to the amusement park and ride the merry go round. He then remembers about the golden ring on it and recalls that he once lived in NY as a child. #6 goes to run after them again (weirdo lol) and then #11 (Kurogane) comes and takes them in her car. She brings them to a private jet and the two of them set off to Japan. Meanwhile #2 is planning his own scenario and walking around in spandex on a nice boat in Yokohama when #10 shows up (Yuuki) and tells him that he broke his phone and therefore removed himself from the game and regained his memories. Back in Japan, Eden of the East is caught and tracked so they have to shut down all their systems and can no longer support Akira. And so the King of Eden ends.
Paradise Lost begins with Saki and Akira on the plane back to Japan. (Pardon me if I miss anything my memory’s foggy so I’m using the pamphlet to remind me.) They meet with the Iinuma wife who is Akira’s step mom and the big hubbub is that Akira needs to now take over the Iinuma estate. However because of all the missile stuff going on, everyone in Japan including her, thinks Akira is a terrorist. So if it can be proven that Akira is really Iinuma’s son, then the terrorist claims will be wiped. He also gives Saki the golden ring on a string as a memory of their time in New York. Meanwhile all the neets are running around with the Airking shirts and one of them recognizes Akira and Akira tells him to go do something crazy.

Akira asks Saki to go to the address he gives her saying he thinks his mother may live there. Saki and Oosugi go to a Thai food place where a woman is running the bar. They try talking to her to ask her if she ever had a son or if she knew anything about him. When Saki goes to the bathroom she finds photos of the woman pregnant while on a merry go round with the Iinuma president. Additionally she does says she did live in New York for a brief period of time. Saki then asks the woman again if she has any recollection of leaving her son at a department store with some money. She says “What would you think of a mother who abandoned her son with 500 yen?” This basically confirms that yes that woman is his mother and she basically had an affair with Iinuma and then abandoned Akira at like the age of 5 or something. The flashback continues – when Akira grew up and was delivering papers one day, an old man in a taxi asked him what he would do if he got a ton of money. I guess Akira’s answer pleased him and he asked if he’d like to “join a game” to save the country and so Akira became #9.

Saki finally reaches Akira and tells him about his mother. He says “oh I figured it was her” but he tells his step-mother a lie and says that no he is not Iinuma’s son. His step mother I think knows the truth though but she just says ok then you will be considered a terrorist. In the meantime #1 who’s been trying to pull the strings is shocked because Akira tells him he knows who Mr. Outside is. Turns out Mr. Outside is that grandpa, also Selecao #12 who got Akira to join the game. Akira then sends 1 yen to everyone’s cell phone in Japan and tells the government if they don’t stop sucking and actually listen to the needs, he will shoot missiles on everyone. The government of course listens to him and #12/Mr. Outside decides to end the game. He cites a command on the phone which causes everyone to forget their time as a Selecao and go back to their previous lives. #10 shows up at #1′s office but since he had already broken his phone he remembers #1, but #1 doesn’t remember him. As #1 tries to drive out of the mansion he was in, #10 gets in the way and he basically runs over and kills him. I guess the shock is so much for him that he then crashes his car into a stone pole and dies as well. Meanwhile #6 wakes up between 2 gay guys going “who the hell am I!?”
Some other 2 selacaos who are an old grandpa and grandma also say thank you? Or something. Since Akira had erased his memory twice before, this command didn’t work on him. He tells Saki he must go and finish his unfinished business. As he starts to walk away Saki runs up to him and gives him a kisu~ <3 And so that’s the last time she sees him. After the credits roll, Akira visits Mr. Outside in a taxi again and he asks him if he’d like to join him in a game. Akira tells him to stop being out of it and that they have a lot of unfinished business.
Couple notes, the Juizes were shown in the movie as being 4 ladies. They were basically the “stand ins” for “Juiz” so the one you saw in the series was only 1 of them. Eden of the East guys & gals went back to being neets I guess since their job was done. Saki went back to hanging out with them again. I’m still kinda sad that she and Akira couldn’t get a happy ending though
( A lot of stuff still didn’t make sense to me. If anyone else saw the movie and can explain the ending to me (what unfnished business??) I would appreciate it honestly lol. I still enjoyed the movie and series a lot. There’s a lot of shows with like loose ends that suck balls but for some reason Eden was still somehow satisfying despite it leaving a few gaps here & there. Or maybe I’m just a giddy fangirl happy to see her OTP come true xD.
Thanks for the quick review on the 1st movie!
For the 2nd, I thought the “unfinished business” part was pretty obvious at the end? It was one of Akira’s sayings (and I believe in the TV series, his goal prior to stopping the missiles attacks). Basically he’ll find Mr. Outside and punch him (for messing up the lives of those in the game)…
… which he more or less did in the end ^^;; Also I thought, though I could be completely wrong, that Mr Outside was actually Iinuma?
If you’re asking what Mr Outside & Akira was talking about after that, then my memory is pretty vague… other than I thought they were gonna team up to change the country? Probably totally wrong though
Oh yea, I think it was Oosugi who actually found the photo since he had to go to the can, not Saki? ’cause I definitely remember him holding out til he couldn’t anymore lol
Oh I forgot which one was in the bathroom at the time lol. I thought it was Saki for some reason E_E;
Mr. Outside is not Iinuma I’m pretty sure. I mean he was like way too old to be Akira’s real dad lol. I recall Akira saying that they were gonna prolly change the country or they had “lots of work to do” but I’m like having a fog in my brain cause I recall being like “wait I don’t get it”cause I thought all the stuff with the government and neets was resolved.
I remember the scene on the carosel being on the pre-season promo. Good to see it finally makes sense months after the season ended.
Didn’t really read the review to avoid spoilers, but are there uncensored Johnnies this time around?
no shin, there’s no johnnies
Spring Anime 2010 « やらないか?
What was the relation between No.3 and No.12?
And what is the paper of No.3, No.7, and No.8 in the movie?
Oh, I forgot. I found this pic in internet.

I´m very interested in the info about No.3, 7 and 8.
Oh yea that’s from the paradise lost film book
Helped me understand all the Selecaos.
#7 is still unknown.
#3 was some grandma in the hospital, they didn’t really go into her until the end when she lost her mamories of being a Selecao. I think the same for #8, I don’t recall much on him either.
I guess this really leaves a giant loophole for the series but yea :T
Way to waste the potential of the last 3 Seleçaos
I remember one scene from the trailer in which Mononobe saw No.3 making a payment to Ato-san. People were talking about that here: http://community.livejournal.com/edenoftheeast/70132.html
yea I just saw that and made a comment
it was nothing really, at the end of the movie all the granny does is tell him thank you lol
Higashi no Eden was just wonderful, I want to cry out of happiness.
there were a couple loopholes and Im really hoping there’s ANOTHER sequel which will never happen and would probably just cause the whole anime to go odd…its how short the whole thing was that made it so amazing and special… and TWO movies!
the animation was beautiful and the plot too~
Im sad its at the finale.
oh! but for those who live near DC, (I do) I noticed the scenes were so exact… and I live right in the area!
I was thinking I could get a few cosplayers and reinact the scenes in a photoshoot o-o;
I dream so much, but I really want to see the reality of Higashi no Eden!
I guess the unfinished business means saving Japan. that’s why akira asks mr. outside to join the game again because they have to continue what they went out to do, saving the country.
So it’s pretty admirable of Akira that even if Mr. Outside called it quits for everyone, he still thought that well, since he already started trying to save the country, might as well see it through. And even better is that he realized he can[t do it on his own therefore he asks people to join his cause.
that’s the last time they ever meet? seriously? why the hell did they even add that? I’d rather use my imagination to pretend that they kept in touch at least, but the “never meet again” thing is seriously pissing me off
doea akira get his memories back???
yes
does the movie really says saki and akira doesn’t meet again? or is it just that they doesn’t appear in the movie again after the kiss??
i mean the idea of stay in contact isn’t so obvious or am I wrong??
i really hope they stay in contact at least.
can anyone answer me, please
thanks soo much do you know when it will come out online subbed
aah i wish i could go to japan >_<
