Shotarape!

Negima had one of the most out-of-nowhere, quick-we-need-to-end-this-somehow-because-the-manga-is-still-running endings that I’ve ever seen. I mean seriously, what? You make the main girl end up having to die? It’s such a head-scratcher that it probably serves more effectively than most endings for still-running series towards getting you to read the manga. You end up thinking “Wait, it can’t actually end like this, right? I should check for myself.”
On that note, the series is pretty effective at this job. The series has such a huge cast and potential for different things that the anime provides a taste, and then if what you just saw interested you, go off and read the (very long) manga. I think the feeling is different from the “Eh, just read the manga; it’s way better” complaint that gets levied at so many manga adaptations due to the fact that this very clearly feels like it’s only supposed to be a small portion of the series. It’s probably more in line with those late 80′s/early 90′s OVAs that “don’t make any sense” and then “abruptly end” which were only trying to just animate a particular story arc rather than those endless (fillery) shounen anime adaptations like Bleach or Ranma 1/2.
Would I watch it even if I weren’t forced? I’ll now proceed to pleasure myself with this fish.
The manga ditched the harem aspect and turned into a shounen fighting manga.
I actually skipped by accident on the episode were the main girl dies and as I watched it it just felt weird…
I did read the manga after that but after 10 volumes I just got bored.
i personally loved this anime adaptation of mahou sensei negima. not because of the fanservice and ecchi bits (u can tell i’m a fudanshi from my blog) but more because it was filled with magic and the plot was interesting.
while i do agree that the manga totally beats the anime hands down. the anime was also quite good. when i watched the episode where asuna died (the one where it started with the sad music and not the usual OP), i actually cried like it was an episode from Fruits Basket. another bonus was that huge magic battle at the end with all the girls and their pactio cards (lmao).
i mean, comparing it to the second anime adaptation, at least this one did not have the stupid frog plushie thing, the chupacabra and kurobara danshaku (eugh). its also quite normal for animes now to end abruptly. look at gintama, d. grayman and all those life-continues endings.
ack, sry for the ranting.
i also liked this a lot more than Shaft’s piece of shit adaptation. i also cried lol (I remember watching this in my room surrounded by boxes cause I was in the midst of a move xD)
The other Negima anime wasn’t canon, but I think it was a lot better and more fun. It was done by Shinbo and SHAFT, for one thing.
Looks like my opinion is distinctly in the minority…
At first I thought you said that you are a “fundoshi”.
I remember when I first picked this up and was all “yaaaay shotacon!” and then it went all fraudien and batshit-trigger-happy and I dropped it. Also keeping up sexual tension with 23 different girls is kinda hard, ya know?
still, this manga is my favorite doujin-source, what with the shota aspect. More shotarape is exactly what this world needs!!
I’m baffled (always wanted to say that) about *why* you were forced to watch this, though. The romance is so forced and random, it’s not really “squeeeeel they almost kissed” material, is it?
No anime is a good adaptation for the Negima series, except the latest OVAs. :] manga is so good, anime is shit, lol.
I did watch this, and then I more or less woved never to care at all about Ken Akamatsu ever again.
I guess loli harems aren’t my cup of tea. Love Hina was sorta okay, I guess, and then I realize that this is basically the same thing with about a hundred times as many harem members, who also are way younger (at least what’s-his-name in love hina was aiming for uni), it really puts me off.
The reboot? No. Just no.
i guess the reason why i enjoyed mahou sensei negima was due to the fact that i just ignored or lol-ed over the fanservice present. i mean, with a 10 (? cant remember) yr old boy voiced by a lady and a bunch of 15 yr old girls, how much sexual tension can there be? unless of course you enjoy +18 animes like Boku no Pico (sry if i’m not meant to mention +18 stuff), then im not gonna say anything…
a pity this adaptation was done too early to show the adult versions of Negi and Kotarou (one of my favorite 801 pairings > <). u won't believe the lack of Negima 801 doujinshi!!
oh! the fundoshi comment cracked me up so bad. its ironic cause fundoshi is one of the only fetishes i fail to appreciate.
PS: sry for pasting the wrong url on my previous post.
sry for commenting again. i just realize why the url didn’t work. instead of “.” before the blogspot, i typed in “@” out of habit. lolz.
They weren’t 15. They were like 12yo.
The girls are 8th Grade, which is to say they’re 13 or 14. Though there are exceptions: Eva is hundreds of years old. Chachamaru is about 2 years old. There are many who think that Mana is a lot older than she claims to be, and has been planted in that class. And Chao? age -100?
Anyway, they aren’t 12, mainly because most of them are in the middle of puberty, if not already finished with it. A class of 12 year olds wouldn’t be as shapely as this lot.
oh sry i guess i was wrong abt the age. the point is that i just enjoyed it more for the magic and plot rather than the girls. to give a extreme example, its like watching hanamaru youchien and not thinking “oh yeah! anzu’s gonna get screwed by tsuchida!!” every single time u see her panties.
Are you discussing the rights and wrongs of a 10year old schoolteacher given supervision rights over a bunch of middle school girls who are more likely to babysit him than be taught by him and be more likely to be sent to juvenile detention for the amount of fan-service they’ve gotten themselves into? don’t start me on the magic or the ‘harem pairings’ either lol
If you’re reading Negima then you know what you’re getting into like most ecchi mangas with high school girls unless you’re a noob.
