the “best” anime of 2009

Well since apparently JP’s 2008 post was popular I figured we should do one for 2009. Obviously this is mostly opinion based (at least from my stand point) but this year I think it’s better than both of us contribute to the 2009 year in review.

My section of this post is going to be more like a look back over the anime blogging over the past year. The most memorable show that stands out to me is Eden of the East and everything else is pretty much forgettable …but let’s remember just for a moment.

January started out the year with the usual mediocre winter shows. I raged about the feces that was White Album but yet I ended up watching Ass no Yoichi anyway. I attempted to watch Kurokami only to then give up because I got sick of them constantly punching little girls in the face and killing someone every episode. Also, simulcast dubs are really lame Bandai. The most memorably terrible by awesome show for the winter season was probably Akikan (and its OVA).

The spring season in April brought us new shows while I was away in Florida. This included the infamous sacks of lactating fat that somehow got a season 2. It also included some great hits like Requiem for Phantom, Eden of the East and Valkyria Chronicles. This season also spurred some long running shows that I’m currently still watching like Hanasakeru Seishounen and the remake of Full Metal Alchemist. For reasons unknown I also sat through crap like Tayutama, and Hatsukoi Limited (although I guess the fact that the manga was cut off itself didn’t help make the anime plot any better.) Oh yea KyotoAnimation pooped out K-On but I figured my Lucky Aids rage from 2007 was not due for a revisit. Also Hahiru 2009 doesn’t count as an anime, seriously you lazy fucks why don’t you make some good shows like you used to back before 2007?

June brought us the 2nd Evangelion movie – which I still haven’t seen. July brought the usual terrible summer lineup and the only thing I even wasted my time on was Sora no Manimani.  Then came October with it’s slew of fall shows. Unfortunately because DVD  and merchandise sales are the only thing driving companies these days, there was too little to pick out of this dump. NyanKoi was alright but mainly because of the talking nukos.  On the topic of domestic animals, Inuyasha came back once more to finally close off the damn anime series and it looks like they’re cutting the filler by killing 1 bad guy per week.

The most memorable show of the fall season had to be Miracle Train, because let’s face it, how many shows have we seen about multiple hot bishies waiting to solve your problems since….uh Ouran Host Club? And although I didn’t bother to watch it (for obvious reasons), I think everyone knows about the Sora no Otoshimono’s panty crusade.  Then of course there were disaster’s like Haruka Season 2 ~Vulgarity~, and the Mahoro OVA. There’s continuing series that I’m still watching like Fairy Tail (which feels like  a Rave ripoff no matter how I look at it) and Kimi ni Todoke (which is awesome but too much slowpoke.jpg)

Oh and we also hit our 1 year blogaversary ever since being DDOSed by a bunch of raging Shugo Chara fans.

And now, for JP’s “awards” for the “best” anime of 2009:

THE “AWARDS” WHERE I JUST MAKE FUN OF STUFF:

“Best” DUDE YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT THIS AMAZING ‘JAPANIMATION’! IT’S NOT KID’S STUFF LIKE DISNEY CARTOONS!: First Squad

This should be all you need to see.

Biggest yuri rickroll: Taishou Yakyuu Musume

taishou yakyuu musume handholding kyaaaah

I mean seriously. The first couple eps are all like “KYAAAAAH, ONEE-SAMA!” but the second it’s time to play some baseball (read: play some baseball against wholesome boys) that turns into “KYAAAAAAH, WHOLESOME BOYS!”

Finest cats and finest cat finery: Nyankoi

nyan koi a cat is fine too

Nyanko-sensei might’ve been the finest cat singular, but Nyankoi had the higher cumulative total.

“Best” Engrish: Hanasakeru Seishounen

hanasakeru seishounen rumaty kyaaaah bishounen

Carl totally said “Ore no purepu sukuuru to bijinesu sukuuru no sukasshu tiimu” once. Also, there was the one episode early on where Eugene spoke in English the entire time, causing all the Japanese females to KYAAAAAAAH.

The Manos: The Hands of Fate award for most redundant title, “best” conflation of violence and sexuality and “best” boobchomp boobgrab: Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom

phantom requiem for the phantom reiji grabs claudia's boob

I want to make one of those Advice Dog pictures for this show where the two choices are “KILL SOMEONE” and “GRAB CLAUDIA’S HUGE-ASS TITTY”

Most necessary tie-in: Saki tacos

saki tacos yuki

Even if they were supposed to be pretty nasty.

The Straight Cougar Memorial Award for most ridiculous Sunrise character name: Every single Innovator

gundam 00 s2 innovators have stupid names, right anew?

I mean seriously, “Bring Stabity”? “Hiling Care”?

Most ridiculous non-Sunrise name: The cast of Hanasakeru Seishounen

hanasakeru seishounen international intrigue over oil and wealth

Nia from Asura Cryin’ might have the most ridiculous singular name, but the sheer number of ridiculous ones here (Kajika Louisa Kugami Burnsworth, Rumaty Ivan dai Laginay) crowds her out. Plus, there’s just something about the way that “BAANZUWAASU” or “KWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINZA!” just rollllllllls off the tongues of everyone that say them in that show.

FANSERVICE

Most annoying fanservice trend: peeing

juuden-chan plug pisses herself

Although the more important question: with Seikon no Qwaser in 2010, will breast milk be worse than this?

Bustiest lolis: Asu no Yoichi

huge fuckin' loli tittayzzz

I mean, dayamn.

Most ridiculous boobage: Queen’s Blade

queen's blade exploding boobs literally

Starting next year, this will be renamed as the “Queen’s Blade memorial award”.

Buichi Terasawa Memorial Award: Hatsukoi Limited

hatsukoi limited accentuated asscheeks

With accentuated asscheeks winning last year, too, this award needs a formal name.

“Best” source material: Princess Lover

it's not even worth trying to censor this cg when it's a picture of a pregnant charlotte hazelink lactating and squirting while being fucked in the ass

I think the picture says it all.

Dreamiest bishie: Bae Yong-jun

kyaaaah yon-sama

I lost count of how many years it took the Winter Sonata anime to finally arrive, BUT IT WAS WORTH IT KYAAAAAAH YON-SAMA!

The Strike Witches award for the show that uh, “normal” people would have watched if not for the ridiculous fanservice: Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan

juuden-chan plug tentacle rape

Honestly guys, was the peeing worth it? You couldn’t have just stuck with plain ol’ tentacle rape?

HALL OF SHAME:

Gundam Seed Destiny Memorial Award for the series that could’ve been best improved if I (or in this case, Mamoru Oshii) had written it: Rideback

uo! mabushii!

Seriously, Rideback could’ve gone in about two or three different directions (exciting racing series! psychological drama about life under occupation!) and turned out really good. Instead, it tries to be mecha Princess Tutu or something and yes, that is every bit as dumb as it sounds. I was even willing to give it the suspension of disbelief that a ballerina can instantly become an expert motorcyle racer overnight. I just couldn’t give the political intrigue any suspension of disbelief, however.

Guiltiest pleasure: Hanasakeru Seishounen

This is a guilty pleasure for two reasons. The first is that I am a man in his late 20′s and not a girl in her early teens. The second is because this is hands down the campiest show of the year. Chiaki Kon strikes again!

PS: BAAAAAAAAAAANZUWAAAAAAAAASU!

Worst sports series: Saki

oh look, the 13 orphans

While Saki is a pretty fun series, the mah jong portion is SO BAD. I didn’t know anything about mah jong before I started watching the show, but started to figure things out as I went along when suddenly I realized just how stupid all the abilities were and how all the “amazing” skill was just blind luck. Imagine if this was a poker show, and people had “abilities” like that they will always flop a full house if they keep 2-7 off (Hisa), or always make the nuts on the river when they go all-in (Koromo), or that their “signature hand” is four kings.

SUGOIEST series and most surprisingly bad series: Canaan

Seriously, Famitsu? This is what gets a 40/40 nowadays?

Uncanniest valley: Mecha Mote Iinchou

THEY GAZE INTO YOUR SOUL!

QUALITY-est animation: Akikan

akikan dat sure is sum QUALITY animation there

And that’s just from what I had easily accessible for screencaps.

Biggest sequel dropoff and most misleading title: Haruka Nogizaka’s Secret ~Purity~

haruka nogizaka's secret is that she wants cawk

Who would’ve guessed that a show called “Haruka Nogizaka’s Secret ~Purity~” would be not about Haruka Nogizaka, her secret, or purity, and would instead be about another character gaining a harem of scantilly-clad filler characters while the titular character vanishes for weeks at a time?

Most unnecessary OVA: Mahoromatic

ecchi na no wa ikenai to omoimasu etc

Was anyone clamoring for this?

This year’s “ZOMG ANIME IS DYING” award: K-ON

dont say lazy dont say crazy blah blah go fap to this now

Normally, my reaction to moe-centric shows is “Eh, I don’t really like these” and go watch something else. Sometimes, there even ends up being one that I like, such as Ichigo Mashimaro. K-ON showed me the line in the sand with moe-centric shows where “Eh, I don’t really like these” becomes frothing at the mouth ranting and anger.

Most I don’t know what but definitely weird of the year, if I could figure out what that something was: Miracle Train

the centaur is not alex rodriguez

Let’s see: bizarre premise, incredibly creepy setup that the show doesn’t realize is creepy (women wander onto an empty train and then are cornered by a masked man), completely tl;dr text dumps (let’s go list the width in millimeters of all the tracks!), awful CG, completely nonsensical cameo from Alex Rodriguez, and oh yeah, the fact that it’s a show about train stations personified as bishies.

Worst series of the year, if I am really just trying to troll: Haruhi season 2

How bad was Endless Eight? It was so bad that it went beyond making us question why we liked the first season of Haruhi so much. No, it was so bad that it instead made us question if we even like the first season of Haruhi any more.

Worst anime of the year, if I am allowed to count incest shota rape softcore porn: Aki Sora

its not even worth tryign to censor any screencaps of incest shota bed rape or incest shota bath rape

Where else but a shota incest rape softcore porn OVA can we learn that breasts can be touched and sucked on within the first five minutes? I should also mention that this is explicitly stated, rather than implied through the visuals.

Worst series of the year, if I am not allowed to count incest shota rape softcore porn: Seitokai no Ichizon

shitsuxktksbai

We now have the anime equivalent of those Freidburg & Seltzer (blank) Movie “parodies”.

AND FINALLY, THE NON-SARCASTIC AWARDS:

Best OP and best shoujo series: Kimi ni Todoke

Can you GET any more sawayaka than this? NO YOU CANNOT DON’T EVEN TRY.

Best OP that I am being forced to include: Eden of the East

Juiz, give me an OP with a good song with actual English.

Best ED: Sora no Otoshimono

And while we’re at it, the best promotion as well.

Best fanservice series and “best” fanservice series: Queen’s Blade

The best way to sum up Queen’s Blade is how one of the characters gets all her clothes burned off by acid breast milk in the first episode. She then walks to the next town over the course of several days in the next episode along with one of the other characters. Neither of them ever point out in any way that one of them has been walking around naked for days.

Best comedy: Hatsukoi Limited

it was either this or some nudidity

2009 wasn’t a very good year for comedies for me, but Hatsukoi Limited was probably the best of the bunch. I can recall it actually making me laugh once or twice! Also, aforementioned accentuated asscheeks.

Best moe-centric series: Saki

miyanaga-san...haramura-san...

While I thought that the mah jong was really stupid, oddly enough the non-mah jong parts of the show were surprisingly winning. The show somehow managed to give each character juuuuuust enough time to do something endearing, which is no mean feat considering how enormous the cast is.

Best sports series and most surprisingly good series: Cross Game Taishou Yakyuu Musume

No wait, there is no documented evidence of anyone ever watching Cross Game. The real answer is Taishou Yakyuu Musume

Best shounen series and best sequel: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

moar like fma brofist amirite

It’s weird. I’ve never really had much to say about Bro-hood, but there’s a kind of competence to it that just makes it seem easy. Or something?

Best action series and the IT’S OK IF I’M THE DEVIL Memorial Award for AWESOMENESS: Sengoku Basara

oyakata-sam! yukimura!

YUKIMURA!
OYAKATA-SAMA!
YUKIMURA!
OYAKATA-SAMA!

PS: Wakamoto as Nobunaga
PPS: PUT YA GUNS ON

Best something of the year, if I could figure out what that something was and best OVA: Cencoroll

do a cencoroll

Again, hell if I can describe what exactly it was about Cencoroll that I liked, so let’s just go with “bursting with creativity”

Best show, if I get to ignore the second half and best penis johnny-centric show: Eden of the East

code penis johnny of the rebellion

I’m hoping/assuming that the Eden of the East movies (which I THINK will be out when we go on vacation to Japan in the spring) will do what the First Gundam movies did for the story. I was really into the show at first, but then it started to either lose control of the story, or they were purposely trying to make the story in a way that screamed “SEE THE MOVIE FOR THE WHOLE STORY!”

Best show, if I get to ignore the last 4 episodes: Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

we carefully researched exactly how a shota ghost would act

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 was really, really good at first. The tension and suspense were perfectly calibrated and even side characters were able to garner instant sympathy. Then Yuuki “dies”, Mirai trips ballz, and we get some bullshit Sixth Sense shit.

“Best” “Anime” of the year: Isshouni Training

Anime needs to be made on the cheap. Corners need to be cut whenever possible. What’s a great way to cut corners and reduce the amount of frames you need animated? Stock footage. You know what else is repetitive? Exercising. You know what people like to see over and over again? Boobs. And then they caught lightning in a bottle.

So all in all, 2009 was pretty average. Summer was better than average, Fall was below average, and Winter and Spring were average.

51 thoughts on “the “best” anime of 2009

  1. I’m only half sarcastic there. I honestly think that that was a really creative way to make an anime independently on the cheap and sell boatloads of copies.

  2. I actually really like Cross Game.

That said, I also simultaneously admit that there’s very limited amount of reason to actually watch or read it if you’ve ever seen or read anything by Mitsuru Adachi ever.

  3. Yeah. I think he’s pretty competent as far as how he handles presentation and pacing, but he really has recycled his format into the ground.

  4. I agree that this year pretty much stank for shoujo and comedy. I’m not one for bishie fanservice, so Miracle Train was a bore (but Lawrence really manned up in Spice and Wolf II and won me over). Todoke quickly became an unbearable one-trick pony and is now almost a parody of itself (look! Kazehaya does nothing again and everyone loves him for it!)

It’s really a shame that no one watched Eve no Jikan, Bantorra or Spice and Wolf II (or they ain’t talking). Hell, even ToraDora deserved better for trying to provide us with a decent non-harem highschool romance without excessive filler, fanservice, or angst. And who even noticed Chi’s New Address or Astro Fighter Sunred II? No one, that’s who.

Instead everyone decided that it would be better to fawn over Yawn Koi or Todoke, complain about infinite Hahiru and Shangri-ha, and wax idiotic about Bakesenjougahatari or Penis of the East. Oh well, I’ll ranting stop now.. I *am* happy someone else liked Requiem of the Phantom enough to mention it :)

  5. Since I pretty much only remember watching Eden, Phantom, Fullmetal Alchemist, Kimi ni Todoke and Nyankoi! and forgot about everything else, I guess this year really sucked. =\

  6. Seitokai isn’t that bad actually, it has one of the most likeable male leads out there. There are much worse series out there… like Aki-sora, oh wait-

  7. I stopped watching Canaan after Canaan commented about how sugoi Maria was because she said sugoi all the time. I knew nothing could top that. The year overall felt kind of below average at best for me. I think the only series I finished this year was Bakemonogatari, and due to all the static shots in episode 10 I’m not sure if the entire series was technically animated. All of my hopes for next year are pinned on Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku; if it can be half as epic as the first volume of the manga, it could be incredible. Also, thanks for bringing the Sora no Otoshimono ED to my attention. Beautiful.

  8. … I’m ok with most of this. However:

“Biggest yuri rickroll” – Anyone who went into Moe Baseball Girls expecting yuri got what they deserved.

“Biggest sequel dropoff and most misleading title: Haruka Nogizaka’s Secret ~Purity~” – But the first season sucked too! Seriously.

  9. Seitokai started out just tossing out references willy-nilly but as the show went on either I stopped understanding the references or they stopped making them. It was still enjoyable though. The little sister of the journalism club pres was hilarious.

That aside…mostly mediocre year. Currently I enjoy Cross Game (and Gintama) most but I admit that this is the first Adachi series for me. I do plan to watch Touch someday though.

  10. I lol-ed @ Queens blade stealing both sarcastic and non-sarcastic fanservice category!
Nyan-koi needs to be moved to non-sarcastic, cats are nyantastic!
I’m guilty, I admit: I liked K-ON… A life of single male needs some moe or else I drift off into madness…
And Hatsukoi limited was a good series for being non-harem with multiple pairings… And multiple happy endings.
I was appaled at lack of quality action: compare Valkyria chronicles or Rideback to (Attention!) Full Metal Panic! and you will know why…
Also I propose award for most overdue sequel for Inuyasaha, and also for Inuyasha special reward for breaking with the filler tradition (heck they are finishing almost one henchman of the big bad weekly!)
And what about Railgun? I really like it, it has decent action even if set in bishojo pink ghetto…

    • @a lot of people

If it’s not anywhere on here, it’s most likely that neither of us watched it.

      @a bunch of other people

Queen’s Blade is what it is, so I want to give it more credit than something like I dunno, Kanokon.

@another group of people which may include some of the earlier people

One of the reasons that I think this year was average is because along with the shows that I liked, there are plenty of commenters saying “Oh what about XYZ,” which to me implies that there was enough for everyone this year.

      @YHK

Oh gawd yes. I cannot WAIT for Legend of Koizumi! I am fully expecting it to beat Sengoku Basara S2 next year.

      @Sorrow-kun

I, and I think a few others, mainly went “1920s=Class S=Yuri” at first glimpse with Taishou Yakyuu Musume. Also, Haruka S1 was better than expected (and Nyan Koi this year) to me mainly because I was expecting like a 2 and got a 5 or so. Back down to a 2 we go with S2!

  11. @jpmeyer
Yeah, expectations. With the first season, I was expecting a “5″ and got a “3″. I watched one ep of the second season and didn’t bother with the rest.

  12. I second that trapeze (kuchu buranko, I never know which one to call it) call, I wants it in there. Aoi Bungaku toos.

Also Umineko for show that’s good but inferior to the series it’s the spiritual successor to, or something.

  13. I’m just wondering why all the other people who tried watching Nyan for their cat fix didn’t seem to notice Chi’s New Address? I started Nyan purely for teh kittehs and left because of the boredom (much like I began SeiZon for teh lulz and left because I wasn’t laughing).

And KnT is highly overrated. It’s been a while since I saw the fangirls go this nuts over a pointless sleepwalking bishie. I’m surprised they didn’t stick with Miracle Man Train. It’s as overrated as Bakemonogatari, the best animated show without any real animation.

    • I should note that were I actually able to watch Summer Wars and Evangelion 2.0 those could very well have been my choice for best anime of the year.

      @Topspin

Wait, MIRACLE MAN TRAIN is overrated? As in everyone’s saying it’s like a 1 when really it should be like a -5???

      @Vera

I looked at the first chapter of the Aki Sora manga and it was basically the same as the anime, so all I can say is “Wait, it gets EVEN WORSE than that?!?”

      @i-k

The way I’m looking at it, if I can count Legend of Koizumi and Gundam Unicorn as being part of the winter season, it doesn’t look so bad. Otherwise, yeah…

      @omo

I didn’t even finish the first episode :P

  14. *scratches head* I’m starting to wonder where I was this whole year… since most titles don’t really tell me anything. -_-;

I agree with Higashi no Eden’s OP – music and video awesome! *sugoisugoisugoooooooooooooi XD* (yes yes I’m doing this on purpose).

Favorite anime this year is FMA2 (too lazy to type it all out), but Higashi no Eden is a very close second. Love Kimi ni Todoke too, but like you said it’s a bit of a slowpoke.

I watched Aki Sora some 2 days ago, and read the manga (what was scanlated of it, biensure) and… well you know, the anime’s not that bad, when compared to the manga. No really, it just gets worse and worse… it’s like a trainwreck where you just keep reading and then go “No really? Sora honestly just HAD to do it? No way out huh?”.

Cencoroll is on my watchlist… once I find the time for it. Am too busy making time for Summer Wars… it’s that or sleep (and so far sleep’s winning ;) ).

I actually quite liked Tokyo Magnitude and bawled my eyes out during the last episode. *shifty look* It’s something that was great, had a good soundtrack, but… Higashi no Eden was way better. And I like happy endings. :P

Oh and Gundam00′s innovators were always a treat to me. I mean, you just couldn’t help and wonder what other ridiculous name they could come up next. :P

I’ll definitely have to check out First Squad. The animation looks amazing. WHY DIDN’T I HEAR ABOUT IT! *is shocked*

Other series I’ve enjoyed this year:

    - Ristorante Paradiso – I definitely have to find the manga… and get myself an oyaji of a boyfriend XP

    - Eve no Jikan – although waiting for it was a pain. But I really really enjoyed the episodes. Wonder if they’ll make a longer series based on it.
OK so this one started last year, but it ended this year soo… I’m including it :P

    - Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou – love the talking cat to bits. :P

    - Kuroshitsuji – mysterious dark demon who’ll eat you? Sign me up any time. XD

  15. yeah, this year was pretty average-to-bad overall. My favourites would have to be Eden and Saki, though I can’t really say I recommend Saki to anyone.

Next year looks promising, at least with Gaydam Unicorn (which should have a decent budget at least, so at worst it will be another 0083) , and Legend of Koizumi. I am bummed the latter will only be an OVA though, I’ve been missing weekly doses of mahjong.

  16. JP: lots! Basically everyone gets to rape poor innocent Sora under various idiotic pretenses, and he’s sooooo nice (and helpless) that he just lets them. There’s an orgy too :P

  17. The only thing about Tokyo 8.0 that I found annoying was the episode with all those wacky awesome robots. I mean, there’s no reason to read anything supernatural into the last few episodes, it’s a just an overtly sentimental depiction of unbearable loss.

    • @tsu

The problem isn’t that it’s “supernatural” in the Sixth Sense way, but the way that it’s structured Sixth Sense-ively. By making it this big reveal right at the end, it makes the show set up so that what it’s building towards isn’t the detailed research or strong characters, but the revelation that Yuuki is dead. If they had like, half of an episode of Mirai tripping ballz or something and then said it, it would have worked a million times better. It also does not help that the show doesn’t do a very good job of having him appear at the times when he does in Mirai’s imagination.

  18. Did u knew K-On! Will have a 2nd season? Really companies just want money! And K-On! Is one hell of s gold mine! CD’s DVDs BDs, they really like money xD hope next year is a little better, spring looks good :p (Angel Beats!)

  19. The fact that we didn’t watch it since we can’t stand Rie Kugimiya aside, I personally thought of Toradora more as a 2008 show than a 2009 one. When it comes to Fall shows, I’m completely arbitrary as to whether to put them in the year they premiere or the year they end. For example, Gundam 00 came in here instead of last year simply because those awful innovator names came in the second half of the season.

  20. I must mention I kinda wish someone will take Aoi Sora, and make a serious, psychological probably-gonna-be-murder thriller. It could be very intereting (and most likely very distrubing) written properly.
I have a thing for psychotic characters, and that sub-plot about fraternal twins’ identity crisis is actually pretty intriguing, but I suppose H manga has other priorities than complex psychological discussions.

Also, Aki Sora isn’t shouta, because Sora is not a boy. He is a girl with a penis, in every possible way. I have not seen him once act, think or talk like a man, or even a boy, and as such I can’t help but feel this is actually half-heartily disgusted lolicon. Very disappointing, I haven’t met a decent shouta since Merupuri.

  21. And it’s a wrap!

You guys went through more animes that I thought… didn’t know you were still watching Fairy Tail. I went back to watch Groove and the two are practically twins!

  22. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, but Juuden-chan would’ve basically been the most enjoyable light fanservice show were it not for the pissing.

I actually did watch the whole thing and like it a lot, but I also totally ignored the watersport completely, so yup. Overall, I just felt it did almost everything other than that well.

  23. @ ToastCrust
So, you mean beating up retarded, plastic-clad girls with a baseball bat normally makes for an “enjoyable light fanservice show”, but not if they piss themselves in the process?
Watching Juuden-chan is known to cause intense physical pain in most viewers, but I guess you can find it enjoyable if you’re a masochist, like me.

  24. >>tsu
Pretty much. Perhaps it sounds terrible, but I generally appreciate shows that aren’t too worried about violence against women. It’s not like anime isn’t already rife of horrible violence against men by women, so I try to ignore that double standard.

That said, I just thought Plug was a nice design with a fairly retro character concept, and the whole sort of dissonance of retro plot line + ridiculous new age fanservice entertained me a lot.

But yeah, a guy hitting a girl with a bat is just as funny as a girl hitting a guy randomly with a bat.

I will say though, I didn’t have much interest in Alesta. They kind of took the whole masochism thing a bit too far with her, lulz.

Finally, Juuden just came across to me as a really honest fanservice show–it’s airing on AT-X really showed practically as much as possible, and looking at the DVD’s, hardly any content was ever actually censored (yet the show was still really over the top).

But yeah, I guess I don’t like watersport.

  25. Interesting awards and yeah @ BlackSunn88, definitely some sarcastic comments lol. Hmmm, where do I start…

Well I haven’t seen Queen’s Blade (but plan to)…so I can’t say much about that, definitely agree with Brotherhood from FMA, though it’s not a “sequel.” It’s just a revamp of what FMA SHOULD have been. In my opinion at least. Eden of the East…..was VERY interesting at first, but then after maybe the 3rd or 4th episode, I was bored to stitches. Bleah. OP of Eden of the East was wonderful too :) Interesting awards.

  26. Nice roundup, I almost feel inspired to do something like this on my own.

(quick note though, I watch and like cross game, and I don’t really care for baseball as it isn’t really a sports we play here in sweden. Too bad the ice hockey/love story anime series are so scarce.)
