I think the worst part is that she CLEARLY told him she only likes him because he’s there (“Sasuke is getting further away but you’re always there”). I mean, FTW? Doesn’t she care about him AT ALL? Like “oh man the guy I want isn’t here so I guess I’ll have to settle for you! That’s the only reasoning I can get (if she didn’t mention Sasuke, we might think she actually LIKE him, and we can’t have that! Since it’s clear she still head over heels for him, we can appreciate so much more her noble sacrifice for Naruto! or something like that?) from this chapter. Either that, or Kishi is using her as a self-insert because he misses his little Sasu-tan and needs to express himself.

And look at the 2 most powerful people in the manga, Nagato and Madara. ALL KINDS OF EMO. So this development was destined to take place.

1) Sakura mentioned Sasuke 1000 times because HE was the reason why Naruto decided to put his life on the line. Because of that promise to Sakura over Sasuke. So if Sakura dropped his name quite a bit in the confession, it’s not hard to understand why.
2) A few chapters ago, Sakura was in TEARS when she was told Naruto was doing so. Guess what she’s doing to rectify that?
3) Naruto was calling BS on the fake confession, not her feelings nor his feelings. He still loves her… but he isn’t a stupid idiot. Yes, he can be in love with a woman AND be smart about it. He can tell when something is wrong. Boys like these do exist.
So no, Naruto and Sakura isn’t dead or canon, and neither is Naruto x Hinata. NO SHIPS ARE MOVING.
