I knew only two things about Gakuen Heaven before watching it: it takes place at “BL Academy” and it features many shots of men’s crotches. This post will focus on the latter.

what i was forced to watch this week #29: buttsecks double feature – princess princess

not-so-delicious traps?
Buzzer Beat – 07
YEA THIS EPISODE ALMOST SUCKED EXCEPT THE LAST 15 MINUTES YEA. (and the part where Mai and Shuuji were about to kiss xDDDD) Yay! Now if all the cockblockers would go away (*cough Natsuki and engagement ring man). Man I haven’t seen YamaP make out this much since Stand Up!! xD
what i was forced to watch this week #28: spiral
I’ll keep this review short, since Spiral is that particularly pernicious kind of bad: the kind of bad that doesn’t distinguish itself at all. Spiral is supposed to be a mystery series. The first oh, five or so episodes have short episodic mysteries. They’re not particularly great, but they’re still mysteries nonetheless so there’s a sense of enjoyment when they’re solved. That is also apparently where the anime diverges from the manga. At this point, it just throws stuff at the wall and doesn’t try to make any sense. Not in the way that say, Lost doesn’t try to make any sense. Rather, it doesn’t even invite you to even delude yourself that any of this matters in some way, making the entire experience utterly forgetful.

uho! ii otoko!
Would I watch it even if I weren’t forced? Just watch Higurashi if you want some murder mysteries.
NYC Japan Food Fair

what the crowd.
So I made the mistake of going to a Japan food fair today. Okay so I originally didn’t think it was going to be a mistake but that basically changed the moment I got there. Continue reading
Valkyria Chronicles – 21

Pierce the heavens with your drill Alicia
Alicia kicked ass in the latter half of the episode. The first half was the fat army captain being a whiny bitch, and then followed by Faldio being a whiny bitch. The asskicking made up for it. Miss Big Tits got her ass handed to her bwaahahha.
what i was forced to watch this week #27: full moon o sagashite
For a while, I kept confusing Full Moon o Sagashite with Hanbun Tsuki ga Noboru Sora until I remembered that this one is the one with the throat cancer and Hantsuki is the one with the hepatitis (ewww…) Anyway, the part of Full Moon o Sagashite that I sticks out the most is the singing. There’s a ton of it, which is greatly augmented by the gobs and gobs of filler, which usually had a concert scene taking up a good 5 or so of the episodes 20 minutes.

just one of many soundtrack-related commercials in the show!
Recommendations Wanted!

おすすめ募集中!
JP and I are finally planning our (first) trip to Japan in 2010 – and well this is an open call for any recommendations in the Tokyo area. We got a bunch of guidebooks for places to visit but more than anything we need recommendations for places to stay and where to buy tickets. Continue reading
