Yes anime poop because everything this summer looks like a piece of CRAP. Special bonus: Now with 150% more RAEG.
うみねこのなく頃に(Umineko no Naku Koro Ni) – WHERE THE SEA CATSGulls CRY. Alex is gonna kill me for making fun of this but I have nothing against other than well I really don’t have any interest in this show. I liked Higurashi when it first came out and I saw the first 2 TV series but my interest has waned, and I haven’t even bothered with the OVA so I can’t see myself bothering with this either.
JP’s Comments: I missed Higurashi, so I don’t really care either way about this. The only thing that I have to say is seriously Japan, where does “sea cats” come from when describing a bird?
NEEDLESS – Need less of Gurren Lagan ripoffs and bare titties kthxbye.
JP’s Comments: I totally thought that those were supposed to be fake Kamina and fake Viral at the top. Just like how I thought the above sentence was “Need less of Gurren Lagan ripoffs and more bare titties.”
大正野球娘。(Taishou Yakyuu Musume) – A league of their own, version Japan. Could use more Madonna…or maybe not.
JP’s Comments: I’m willing to give this an episode or two, entirely because I like when anime are set in the Taisho period. The setting alone, however won’t be enough to keep me watching it if it turns out to be the kind of show that I don’t like.
エレメントハンター (Element Hunters) – Lolis and shotas in tight clothing. The grotesque front page image made me want to barf. They look like starving African children who have only eaten sand for the last 5 years of their life. I’ll pass.
JP’s Comments: Neon sand! Seriously though, those kids look YOUNG, like they’re 5 or something.
プリンセスラバー!(Princess Lover!) – After her not so successful stunt in Fate/Stay Night, our heroine Saber decides to star in an eroge anime in order to score some bootay. She also changes her name to Sylvia. I dunno it looks dumb as a brick but since I usually watch these kind of shows I’ll check it out anyway. Unfortunately my resilience to these kind of shows is also waning lately…hmm…
JP’s Comments: Wait, what? There’s actually a dude here. I get the feeling I’ll be forced to watch these, and after a few minutes my mind will wander and boredom will cause me to turn away from the show and towards googling for a CG set.
かなめも (Kanamemo) – Everyone in this show is either a flat chested loli or a huge boobed oneesama. No one looks remotely “average”, leading me to believe this will be a show targeted towards lolicons that love BREASTS. I didn’t bother reading the summary to find out what this is about since it doesn’t look like it will be anything deep anyway. I might check it out anyway so I can throw tomatoes at it later.
JP’s Comments: WARNING WARNING RIE KUGIMIYA ALERT.
よくわかる現代魔法 (Easily Understandable Modern Magic) – Step 1 make wind blow, step 2 make sure every female’s pantsu is visible within your vicinity, step 3 ???, Step 4 profit! It’s a harem show about magical girls. Is this based off an eroge? Cause it looks like it is, and it looks like it will have a similar story to go along with it. Will I watch episode 1: probably. Will I watch beyond that? Probably not.
JP’s Comments: It would be pretty awesome if the official English title really was “Easily Understandable Modern Magic.” I love when shows get awkward-but-not-Engrishy titles like that or “A Certain Magical Index”.
東京マグニチュード8.0 (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0) – Once Eden of the East ends, I’m leaving Notaimina. In fact I never liked any of the shows that aired in that block to begin with and aside Eden being a pleasant surprise, I’m not about to start liking anymore. Also shows about natural disasters keep reminding me of this terrible drama I watched some years ago.
JP’s Comments: This, on the other hand, is probably the only show this season that I am genuinely looking forward too. I think the only Noitamina shows that I didn’t really care about were ones like Mononoke and Ayakashi. Well, and Library War but that was just because the premise was a bit too ridiculous for me.
青い花 (Aoi hana) – Lesbians etc, go elsewhere for that.
JP’s Comments: Wuh oh. JC Staff doing yuri. Yeah yeah, I know they did Utena, but that was over 10 years ago and I haven’t seen anything remotely like that come out of them since.
化物語 (Bake Monogatari) – Die in a fire shaft and your ghetto bushwick anime studio garage.
JP’s Comments: lololololololol Shaft lololololololol
CANAAN – Please note the extra A was added so that this show isn’t confused with a 3rd rate hentai series. What’s with all these disaster shows this summer? Summer’s supposed to be fun happy time & shit, where are all the eroge adaptations?
JP’s Comments: I will admit that I did first look up Magical Canan and assumed that I found the right title.
Well that’s it for the preview. I’m not expecting to pick up anything to be honest, I’ll probably just be continuing to watch Full Metal Alchemist, Phantom and Hanasakeru Seishounen during the summer season. Maybe an interesting drama will pop up instead.
JP’s Comments: Whoa whoa whoa. WHERE IS MY WINTER SONATA? KYAAAAAAAAA, YON-SAMA! Also, there is a “Akane-iro no Somaru Saka – Hardcore” OVA
>Lolis
>tight clothing
Count me in. Actually after looking at the character designs scratch that. Well, unless they look really different (i.e. better) in the actual anime.
does. not. compute.
…just lol

As a player of the games, I’d highly encourage you to at least give Umineko a try, especially since it’s full of fangirl-worthy pairings
.
Seriously, though, it’s pretty interesting. There are a few obvious references to Higurashi but as a whole it’s an entirely different experience (especially once they delve into the second arc).

naza> it makes perfect sense. it’s the same kind of lolicons who draw pangya fanart of Kooh with GIANT gazongas.
spoofle> Actually my friend Alex told me about the pairing thing too, thanks for reminding me lol I guess I’ll check it out after all

CANAAN is based on a game that had a famitsu rating of 40 or something incredible.
That said I’m watching it purely because of canned dogs.

Seriously, a 40????
::checks Wikipedia::
Wow, it really did get a 40, and it’s basically Machi for Wii.

Umineko. That’s about all I’m watching. Summer is a snooze.

None of this series tickle my fancy, at least yet… I probably watch couple of first episodes of every series and then choose one or two.
WTF, no sports animu ?? Japan stop fapping and force yourself to make some real workout -_-;

BUT UMINEKO HAS PAIR-Oh wait, nevermind.
I came here expecting to see a Sea Cat joke, and was not disappointed.
Also… Akane-iro no Somaru Saka “Hardcore”, huh… I just don’t like the way it sounds. Dx EW INCEST.

You forgot the best show of the summer, Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.
Personally I love Shaft, but other than Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Bakemonogatari, and Umineko, nothing else intrests me at all. That’s fine though, I’ll be able to catch up on a lot of other series.

I didn’t forget, I purposely left it out because JP and I haven’t seen or cared about the first 2 seasons.

None of it looks very promising, that’s for sure. But I thought that about the spring season, too, and there have turned out to be several shows that other people really like. (And one, Saki, which I ended up liking a lot.)
It isn’t always easy to tell from these kinds of teasers whether a show will really turn out to be any good.

Tokyo magnitude 8.0 – serious theme anime, count me in
Canaan – possibly, if it delivers some combat/mystery combo – like Darker than black did
Umineko – possibly, if it tickles my deduction skills like Higurashi did
otherwise I am going to the beach to see real sea kittens in 3d

I guess if I feel like watching anything, it’ll be an old show and not any of this new (same) crap.
PS: Are you interested in any upcoming dramas? Have you checked out Mr Brain?

Spice and Wolf 2 in july, I’ll definitely watch, other than that, I don’t know. I just don’t know. Perhaps Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 due to Bones making it, I suppose.

algelic> i haven’t really done any research on summer dramas but I’ll browse the drama wiki this week. a lot of times with dramas I’ll think “oh this looks interesting” but when it actually airs I end up getting bored with it within the first 10 min ^^;

Yoku wakaru gendai mahou is a light novel series (Sakurazaka Hiroshi×Miyashita Miki), and not a particularly pervy one either.
Also, Bakemonogatari looks like it might be the best thing since sliced bread *and* baguette. If only they don’t pull another Natsu no arashi.

I hope pre season posts would have indications like “Lolicons who liked Nanoha might like this” or “Peeps who like hugging and kissing might like this.”
They make decision making so easy!

Really, give Aoi Hana a chance – writing it off simply as yuri is unfair, because schoolgirl yuri is a category wherein one automatically thinks of crap like Strawberry Panic or Candy Boy. Aoi Hana is more like slice-of-life with yuri included, not the exploitative dreck that seems to get the most attention. If J.C. staff does a good adaptation, this’ll easily be the best thing airing this summer.
I wouldn’t normally go out of my way to encourage the watching of a show this much, but the Aoi Hana manga is just that good.

Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan!! seems awesome/hideous enough to warrant amused interest, I’d say.
A title with three (3) exclamation marks? A promo picture that evokes strong Hand Maid May vibes? Kimura Shinichirou and Studio Hibari?
I wouldn’t miss this for all the mediocre anime in the world.

the inbetween seasons are normally terible (i.e. winter and summer) so no surprise there.
With the “stellar” selection I don’t think I’ll be picking up anything either since I’m already behind on my spring picks.
