You know what, Haruhi is back but for me the hype sorta died 2 years ago. All those rumors and posters and images of season 2 all those hopes, yea pretty much crushed. In addition by now I think everyone has read Baka Tsuki’s translation of the novel so now that we further know what happens (along the fact that Volume 10 is in limbo) there’s nothing for me to look forward to. It’s nice to see Haruhi animated again but after reading the novels I have serious beef with Kyon. I mean the entire reason I watched Haruhi was because it’s dead obvious she’s all tsundere for him, but the only thing he can think about is time travelling milfs and alien meganekkos. It’s like the novel author purposely doesn’t want to pair these 2, or if he had plans to, it was probably for the “conclusion” of the novel series – which he didn’t help by introducing another characters who inherited powers similar to Haruhi.
If that wasn’t enough, it seemed like every time they did a closeup shot of Haruhi’s face I thought her eyes were going to burn my monitor. Maybe it’s been a while but it felt like they added 50% more moe to every female in the show, as if they didn’t have enough of that shit with K-On. (LOL Kyoani fans fighting each other LOL) I’ll probably be watching this show, but I’ll leave it to the fanboys to babble about it since for me it simply is down to just watching because the fandom pretty much ended in 2007.

was never fan, and stopped watching chronologically from episode 7, but I find it hilarious the author is purposely keeping Haruhi and Kyon apart. I always hated the meme of tsunderes always getting the guy.
The Haruhi-eye-moe was okay (gotta cater to da fans somehow! hyuk!), but I couldn’t stand the Mikuru eye enhancement. That was even worse!
Speaking of enhancements, did anyone else notice that older Mikuru’s jugs were… less curvy? Were they always smaller than her younger counterpart? :O
I gotta stand up for Kadokawa on this one. The anime is ready when it’s ready. As for teasing it… what do you expect? They want to keep it in the spotlight until it’s good and done.
Maybe because I used to be a heavy gamer this tactic doesn’t piss me off all that much anymore (game companies do this all the time; it’s expected).
What I think Kadokawa did that was really slick was keeping the airing as a surprise (except for that leak, but such is the way of the internet). That’s pretty damn cool in my book!

Honestly, watching the fandom just pretty much blow up over OMG HARUHI was way more entertaining than watching the actual episode.
Like what’s hard for me mentally to reconcile is the fact that in all honesty, this episode was better than 90% of the shows airing this season, but it also wasn’t ZOMG TEH GREATEST EVAR!!11one which is what the achingly high anticipation level has made us want.
(Similarly, back in 2006, Haruhi was maybe the 4th best show that year, but in any other year it could have been the best one not close.)
Surprised to see nobody mentioned the art quality being inferior to the original by a ridiculous margin. Or am I really just nitpicking at a stylistic difference everyone seem to be okay with?
KyoAni’s art quality has degraded in general. The only thing they put detail into was Haruhi’s burning eyes. I guess I’m so jaded with my hatred against them I didn’t even bother to mention it

Imo it was decent, and I’ll watch it, but I’ve already spoiled my way through most of the story, and all… Not through books, though, but I really should get back to reading more again.
But I digress…
It is always weird when you lose adoration for something. I’m feeling that way about Naruto right now. I’m even skipping chapters. After almost half of my life, living and breathing it, I can take or leave it.
Wonder if you’ll have a post like this about Pangya next year?
