what i was forced to watch this week #3: s-cry-ed

I watched s-Cry-ed because Spoiler: The Panel at NYAF said that this is what it is about:

Let me show you my balls/My balls let me show you them aside, s-Cry-ed was sufficiently AWESOME and somehow managed to not have one of Sunrise’s trademark fail endings.  Hisashi Hirai even managed to make some creative character designs that don’t look like every single other character that he’s ever made (Straight Cougar, etc.)  I guess it was really just around the time of Gundam Seed or Fafner that he started getting totally interchangeable.  And while we’re on that topic, I have lol’ed at how all the characters in Erogane no Linebarrels now have GIGANTIC boobies seeing how after seeing Infinite Ryvius, s-Cry-ed, and both seasons of Gundam Seed, he totally had never done that before.

So seeing how this is a series about ballz, BURNING PASSION (also, lololol at Emurgy and his GaoGaiGar-esque Alter), fighting, and an incongruently cool soundtrack, why on Earth would Hinano have burned this?  Oh wait, that’s why.  Duh.  It’s the Gatekeepers Rule: action series are OK just as long as there is a kiss in one of the last 3 episodes.

Would I watch it even if I weren’t forced? Of course!  They had me at “ballz”.

  1. Actually for some reason my favorite pairing was the Kazuma and Kaname. LOL I was like “maybe in a few years she’ll grow up and it’ll be ok!” XD

  2. -Not- have a Sunrise ending? Come on, JP. First they had the guy who ‘wrote’ reality, but Kazuma snapped out of it because “there’s no way real life would be like that.”

    …And then that’s how the show ended.

    Also, the extended amnesia and plot reset arc. Ew.

Amnesia is eye-rolling, but specifically what I meant is that we didn’t have like Suzaku and Lelouch pointing guns at each other or like everyone in GSD getting along or everyone hating the My-Hime reset. And as silly as it was, I thought that spending two episodes at the end having Kazuma and Ryuho beating the shit out of each other was pretty awesome, in its ridiculous caricature of masculinity.

    Also, I was about to call that guy “Unko” rather than “Unkei”.

  6. Scryed’s ending is universally applauded and people who disliked that are generally treated as people never got over their bullies as a youth or otherwise pussies.

    It is exactly that it is both a caricature and yet so satisfying to those who it makes fun of that it is a masterpiece ending. Plus it’s also definitely the most fun out of the few ending choices it could have had.

    The question is why didn’t you watch it why back…

    • I’m 99% sure it was a DDOS because all the other times when our site got temporarily suspended (usually just for like 5 minutes or so), the error log would be MAYBE 100k. This time it was 1.5 gigs.

  11. So I figure you lost all your entries and such then? That is horrible. I would totally hate to lose everything I wrote down the past six years.

    • I’ve got a download of the databases and the images on my backup drive, but they’re .sql files rather than something readable. Does that count as “lost”?

      Oh, and I lol’ed when I found that I had saved text files of all of my posts back from the original WordPress.com days.

    I actually hated this the first time I watched, but I probably was taking it too seriously, plus I saw it on adult swim and I’m sure the dub was constipated. Straight Cougar though… my hero.

  14. Straight Cougar was awesome. The last episode was so over the top, it was epic.

    And you get where my blog name comes from. One of the better Engrish sentences that I’ve seen in a while. :3
