what i was forced to watch this week #65: he is my master

Since I only managed to get about one-third of the way into this one back when it aired, I had a bit of a slog ahead of me this time. There is really only one thing to really say about He Is My Master: it’s strictly worse than Mahoromatic in almost every way. It is less funny (I didn’t even have any scenes where I laughed while cursing at how I could feel my brain cells dying; surprisingly a perverted lolicon otaku alligator is less funny in practice than one would assume), the characters are much more hateable, and it doesn’t even have uncensored nudidity. Why “almost” every way? Two reasons. The first is no Minawa. The second?

Would I watch it even if I weren’t forced? KYAAAAAAAAAAAAH THEY GET MARRIED AT THE END 。゚:;。+゚☆(///ω///)★゚+。::゚。:.゚。

…Oh wait, my bad. They don’t actually get married. At least it provided some useful AMV footage.

Hanasakeru Seishounen – 38

Goodbye Mustafa

Goodbye Mustafa

Yea I know it’s been ages since I posted anything on this show but next week is the last episode so may as well right??

  • Mahaty is on his deathbed and he wishes to see Kajika, her step-grandpa and her father. Rumaty finds out that Kajika is his cousin and is pretty shocked but accepts it.
  • Kajika throws away the Burnsworth name and decides she will on her own try to get Li Ren back. Toranosuke follows her on his own free well like a little puppy and Mustafagene helps her with the financial side of things because…he’s like her loyal leopard
  • Li Ren’s been emoing the last 4 episodes, it’s really annoying. But I think he’s finally gonna do something about the fact that he’s being forced to take over the Fang dynasty. (and this is all thanks to Carl telling him to stop being an emofag.)

So yea next week looks like Kajika & Li Ren finally get together and run to each other in sparkles & shit. xD I’ll be sure to have some finale impressions and cheesy screencaps.

what i was forced to watch this week #64: mahoromatic s2

We’re getting to the dozen or so titles that I’ll be forced to watch, and at this point most of them are shows that I watched some of on my own and then dropped. In this case, I watched the first season of Mahoromatic but never watched the second because the first was so vile. I had started watching it because I wanted to try to see everything Gainax had made up to that point, and the show started a pretty rough patch followed up with shows like Konomini and Melody of Oblivion. Obviously, I wasn’t missing much by stopping halfway with Mahoromatic.

Like with the picture above, I’m pretty sure that at the few times that I laughed at the show, I was laughing at, rather than with, it. It was wacky and zany, which should be funny, but at the same time I kept thinking how I was losing brain cells in the process rather than actually enjoying what I was watching.

That said, I could probably give the show a little bit more credit if the show went full retard and never threw in the random sci-fi stuff. If I don’t really care about Mahoro as anything but something that makes dinner and says “Ecchi na no wa ikenai to omoimasu” over and over again and gets naked a lot, so I’m simply not going to care when her timer runs out. And all those episodes with spaceships and stuff aren’t full of nudidity, so why would I care about those? Oh, and I actively hated Minawa because of how stupid she is. People will rag on “moeblobs” being “retarded” or “dumb”, but usually they’re just a combination of clumsiness and a lack of common sense. Minawa, on the other hand, is simply too dumb to live.

Would I watch it even if I weren’t forced? I get the feeling that most of the rest of these are going to say “Well, that’s why I didn’t before.”

what i was forced to watch this week #63: himiko-den

I kept expecting Justin Sevakis to have written a what I was forced to produce at Central Park Media this week Buried Garbage column about Himiko-den. It is really, really bad. The best thing that I can say about it is that at least it’s one step above the Mars of Destruction-s and Garzey’s Wing-s of the world; rather than being mind-blowingly incompetent, it’s just shockingly incompetent. Seeing how it came out in 1999, I’d say that the poor show never had a chance in the first place.

I’m not dead; maybe getting there.

For the past 2 months my work place has been hell. I hate working for a Japanese company (the bullshit and racism level is over 9000) and I’m actively seeking new employment at this point. Due to that I’ve had no desire to really blog much, and I only watch about 3 shows a week at this point. I’ve been filling the rest of my free time with gaming so I’ve been updating my game blog more than anything. I looked at our calendar here and I’m like holy crap our blog is like dead. I mean the only recent updates really are JP’s “what he was forced to watch” and he’s starting to run low on those so that corner will probably be ending sometime in 2010.

Maybe the Spring anime season will get me going (interested in Kaichou wa Maid sama) but sometimes I’m just watching a show and moving on rather than blogging about it. I’ve been creating backlogs and just marathoning through them on the weekends and by then it’s like “why blog about a 3 week old episode?” Sorry to anyone who actually liked my episode commentary but I guess for now I’ll make like a bear and go into hibernation until better shows come out and my employment situation has improved.
